World of Warcraft has a remarkably flexible user-interface, which enables dedicated users to enhance their gameplay in many ways. However, this ease of flexibility has led to a proliferation of custom addons of vastly varying quality and usefulness. The list below is meant to be a guide by guildies for guildies that will seperate the wheat from the chaff.
Required AddOns
- CT_RaidAssist (v1.536)
We require CT_RaidAssist to attend our raids, it provides a myriad of functions including the basics of displaying the status of all the raid members at once to more esoteric functions that help make running the raid easier such as raid-wide durability checks and raid-wide broadcasts to the middle of people's screen.
- Decursive (v1.9.4)
Decursive is an addon that partially automates the removal of debuffs from your group/raid. It keeps track of who in the group is debuffed and prioritizing which targets need dispelling/decursing/curing, leaving you only to push the button. You don't have to use it if you really don't want to, but please have it installed so you have the option if the server is lagging badly.
Recommended Addons
- RPGOutfitter CharacterProfiler (v1.53a)
Records your characters for upload to the RPGOutfitter site. Easy to use and gives you a nice web interface to your characters inventories and quests, along with web access to browse the guild bank and see who's on the same quests as you (and who might be looking for a group).
- Scrolling Combat Text
This mod puts numbers and messages above your head when you take damage or heal during combat, just like the numbers that appear above monsters heads. Highly customizable as to which messages show up and how (i.e. colour, size). Can also show messages/reminders when a foe is vulnerable (i.e. Execute), or when you gain a short-term buff such as Clearcasting.
- SpellAlert
SpellAlert is another great addon, it watches the combat log and displays a text alert in the middle of your screen whenever a monster or hostile player nearby begins to cast a spell. After using it for a few days you won't imagine ever going back.
- ItemRack (v1.96)
A very professionally done addon designed to make managing different sets of gear a breeze. With it you can switch from soloing to fire-resist gear with the press of a button, or automatically swap out trinkets on cooldown for other trinkets in your inventory. If you're in combat at the time it'll even queue the switch up and make it as soon as you leave combat.
- Telos' SelfCast (v1.10.1)
A simple but invaluable addon, it will automatically cast any beneficial spell/ability on yourself if you have anything other than an ally targetted.
- Bag Status Meters (v1.3.7)
Another small addon that helps you visually keep track of your bag space. It can put a gauge showing your free space anywhere on your screen, label your bags with how many free spaces they each have and even pop up a message if you are close to running out of room.
- Range Recolor (v2.4)
Small addon that re-colours your action buttons if the target is out of range. Much easier to see than the numbers in the corners for telling whether you're in range or not.
- Cooldown Count (v10900)
Small addon that puts large numbers on your action buttons displaying the current cooldown of that button. Simple but very handy.
- WeaponQuickSwap (v31)
Small addon that adds a function to the game you can use in macros to automate weapon switching. Probably most useful for warriors that need an easy switch from sword/shield to 2-hander or dual-wield.
- DamageMeters (v.5.0.0)
An addon that keeps track statistics about damage/healing dished out and recieved by both yourself and that of your party/raid. It can be useful for understanding how to play better, however it can also lead to people doing stupid things to get to the top of the meter. The first use is ok, the second is not and will get you disciplined if you persist. Use only if you can keep your ego in check.
Profession Addons
- Gatherer (v2.2.2)
A fantastic addon that keeps track of your gathering professions (i.e. mining, herbalism) and treasure chests. This will show icons on your minimap anywhere you have previously found a resource node, along with data on how many times you've harvested there and how far away it is from your current location. These icons can also be displayed on the full-screen area map, to make remembering resources-rich locations more convenient.
Class-specific Addons
- [Warrior] Taunt Buddy (v1.31)
For warriors, this will broadcast to a configurable channel if your Taunt is resisted or your Mocking Blow is dodged, blocked or parried.
- [Warlock] Necrosis (v1.5.1a)
Warlock addon that gives timers for debuffs, prints random funny messages when you summon people and is generally great to have around according to our resident 'locks.
